Saturday 17th September – The infamous Alpabzug in Klosters

Come and welcome down the cows, sheep and goats from their summer on the Alps. This is a truly local and spectacular event with the farmers and their families proudly parading their stock decorated in wonderful flower headdresses and selling local produce at the stalls around the party tent up in Monbiel car park. Please note that the road up to Monbiel will be closed to private vehicles but there is a free shuttle by bus every half an hour from Bahnhof Klosters Platz starting at 9.00am.

The event opens at 9.30am so leaving plenty of time to walk out to Garfuin for the beginning of the parade if you so wish or enjoy a coffee at one of the stands and absorb the ambience before the crowds arrive!  The parade is scheduled to start at 10.30am but timing is always down to the co-operation of the goats and cows and that is not at all predictable and they refuse to be rushed!!  The first group will be school children carrying cow bells from the Primary School in Serneus followed by Alp Cheeses transported sown to be sold on the cheese stands in Monbiel and the cart is pulled by the famous heifer “Meni”.  Working horses will parade in between groups which include the gleaming goats from Alp Falla and then the mother cows and their calves and finally the magnificent and well behaved milking cows with their decorative headdresses from Alp Novai, Pardenn “innen” and Pardenn “aussen”.  Following the parade there are plenty of food and drink stalls, musical entertainment, stands selling the alp cheese, home made produce and local crafts and a petting zoo and other activities for the children – all in all a very special and fun local event!
